Sarah Washington Irving Taylor

Sarah Washington Irving Taylor (1830-1907) was the wife of Samuel Penfield Taylor and Muriel’s great-grandmother.  Sarah and Samuel had eight children, the oldest of which was James, Muriel’s grandfather. Sarah was a school teacher and ran the family’s business affairs after her husband’s death.  A deeply religious woman, Sarah is credited with assisting in the rescue of numerous Chinese girls from a life of slavery and prostitution.
