Buckley McGurrin

Buckley “Buck” McGurrin was an accomplished American painter and sculptor. He was also Muriel’s first serious boyfriend. Buck moved to Paris in the late 1920s, the same time Muriel and Bob were there, where they continued their friendship.

While in Paris, Buck began experimenting with painting on wood rather than canvas and his works became well known and profitable.  In later years, he moved back to California with his French wife where he painted a series of murals.  The best known is a 16-foot high fresco in the San Gabriel Mission which he painted in 1939.  It was considered important enough that the painting was restored in 1987 in time for the Pope to view it during an upcoming visit.
