Louis Mitchell

Louis Mitchell (1885-1957) was a famous black musician and restaurant owner in 1920s Paris. Louis was one of the earliest “Razz” (term later changed to Jazz) performers and recorded what is believed to be the first Jazz recording in 1922. He performed at the Casino de Paris for many years where he formed the Jazz Kings. Louis left the Casino de Paris and opened a series of his own clubs in Paris, including Mitchells and Chez Florence.  Bob and Muriel often dined at both clubs.

Here is an interesting video about Louis Mitchell called Harlem in Montmarte.
