Chez Florence

Chez Florence was named after black singer and dancer, Florence Jones, who was a favorite entertainer in Paris long before Josephine Baker arrived.  Chez Florence was owned by another black performer, Louis Mitchell, one of the earliest Jazz musicians.  Florence became so popular that Louis named the club in her honor.

Florence not only performed at the club, but also cooked. Her homemade southern fried chicken with all the trimmings and waffles were a favorite of the Parisians.  A favorite late night “hot spot,” Bob & Muriel often went to Chez Florence after work and Florence frequently asked them to perform.
